The Suttons May Meeting

A Glimpse of South Georgia

At  the May meeting Dr Frank  Ryding took us on a tour of South Georgia in the Antarctic. He had been there in 1974 and again in 1979 as a member of The British Antarctic Survey. He enthralled us with images of icebergs, glaciers plus the amazing wildlife including elephant seals and gentoo penguins. His slides were used by the BBC at the commencement of The Falklands War as the corporation had no images of their own to use.  A very interesting, informative talk enjoyed by members and visitors alike.
