SALTMARSHE & DISTRICT W.I.

This afternoon, ladies from the various Bromyard Grouping of W.I.s gathered at Conquest Theatre, Bromyard to await the arrival of the W.I. Centenary Baton. Originally this was to have arrived in a horse and carriage, but the poor horse unfortunately going lame, meant a gleaming Bentley was the replacement.

Once there, the "chauffeur", and car owner, Mr. Neville Symonds, opened the door for the passengers. These included our Herefordshire Federation Chairman, Kathryn Bandfield, who was beautifully costumed from days gone by. Several other ladies had joined in with costumes from that time and this presented a beautiful blend of the W.I. then and now.

Bromyard's Mayor and Mayoress, Alan and Mary Seldon, were welcomed by Bromyard's Town Crier, Peder Nielsen, and the Baton was officially "greeted".

Cameras were then busy taking photographs, along with Dennis, the official photographer. In the group picture, three of our Saltmarshe members were included: Wendy, far right, Rachel, second from right, and Linda, waving, third from right.

A very social time then took place in the lovely surroundings of Conquest Theatre foyer, where tea and delicious scones were served. There was also a chance for each member present to handle the much travelled Baton for themselves. It all made for a happy occasion.

EVENT 13 Cradley Picnic

The Ledbury Group celebrated the arrival of the baton,  which was walked into Cradley by Kathryn Bandfield and Jan Dampney, with a picnic in Cradley's church grounds.  Cradley WI provided tea and coffee and members puzzled over a quiz while enjoying the glorious sunshine.  To round off the lunch members waved goodbye to the baton as Kathryn escorted it out of Herefordshire in a Morgan car decorated with hops.
